Iranian researchers have found that taking five tablets of vitamin E a day between the first two days of menstruation and the third day of menstruation can help relieve dysmenorrhea. The findings were published in the recent British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.The researchers say dysmenorrhea is associated with levels of prostaglandin in the body during menstruation, and because vitamin E inhibits the production of prostaglandins, it can be used to treat dysmenorrhea. Experts also point out that the combination of vitamin E and currently commonly used oral contraceptives will be more effective.
